Three direct flights to Asia, with the international seaborne route connecting to the DeltaFerries FAL1 service at Gothenburg Port (historically achieving a weekly 'three-way' flight configuration)

On October 26, CMA CGM launched a direct shipping route to Asia from Gothenburg Port, marking a historic milestone. This development signifies the first time in Gothenburg Port's 400-year history that three independent weekly container routes will connect the port with Asia, with the other two routes operated by Maersk/Hipperott and MSC respectively.

Klars Sandmark, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Gothenburg Port, remarked: "This marks the first time in Gothenburg Port's 400-year history that three direct shipping routes to Asia have been established. While this is undoubtedly special and exciting, it is also entirely logical." He added: "Trade between Sweden and Asia has been steadily expanding for years. With three different shipping companies operating three weekly voyages, the conditions for sustained growth have never been better than they are now."

In 2024, approximately 700,000 containers were transported between Sweden and Asia, with most passing through Gothenburg. Sweden's exports mainly consist of forest products, machinery, and industrial components, while imports from Asia primarily include consumer goods, electronics, clothing, and food.

The surge in Asian trade has set new container volume records for Gothenburg. Earlier in 2025, MSC launched its own direct Asian shipping service, and the partnership between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd's Gemini has positioned Gothenburg as its primary European hub.

With CMA CGM's entry into the market, the port has further solidified its position as a key hub for Nordic-Asian trade. The new CMA CGM service will operate between the following ports: Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Tangier, Dunkirk, Southampton, Gothenburg, Gdansk, Le Havre, Southampton, Port Klang, and Ningbo.

All three Asian routes stop at the Gothenburg Container Terminal operated by APM Terminals, which strengthens the port's increasingly important position in global trade.
